So – if you’ve found this page… and this site… then chances are you’ve come from my YouTube channel – Sparky Guitar. But how on earth did I end up with a Youtube channel and a website??
Well I’ve played guitar for as long as I remember – starting on an old burnt acoustic. That old thing was a hand me down from my Dad… and had survived a house fire and and then2 years of me learning the Beatles songbook from cover to cover before it was finally put out of its misery. At 14 I got my first electric – a Westone Concord (like the red one in some of my videos). Then the black Yamaha RGX612A when I was 16. At Uni I played in a band – but eventually had to get a proper job.
Throughout the years I’ve always played… sometimes a lot… sometimes less. But the one thing I always loved doing was learning new songs and playing along to favourite tunes. It became a regular Friday night thing… grab a beer… grab a guitar… put some music on… and relax after a long week at work.
I had a few tab books – and would look online… but the books are expensive… and the online tabs weren’t always accurate. So I’d have to search around for how to play a song properly and eventually I’d be able to play it… or at least the main parts. Only problem was remembering how to play them the next time! My Youtube channel – Sparky Guitar – was simply there to remind me! It was an idea I had on holiday… on a sun lounger… with another beer in hand. That was the summer of 2018. I got home, picked a song, filmed it. Thought I could do better – play better, film it better, record it better. So I did another one… and another. Then something strange happened – people started watching them! I’ve been blown away by how many people have used them to learn how to play the songs – and the amazing messages I’ve received from fellow guitarists. I remember how hard it was to learn the guitar – so I appreciate how helpful it can be to watch someone else play a song.
So why Patreon? I’d love to grow the channel. Any donations will help improve my recording equipment, website, lighting, software etc. In return – you will have access to all of the downloadable tabs, early access to some videos – as well as exclusive access to some of the lesson videos.
Thankyou for everything so far – and I hope you continue to be part of this amazing little community!
